Accessibility statement

Graz University of Technology strives to design its digital offerings in accordance with the Austrian Web Accessibility Act (WZG), as amended (external site) implementing Directive (EU) 2016/2102 (external site) of the European Parliament and of the Council of 26 October 2016 on the accessibility of the websites and mobile applications of public sector bodies.

This website is largely compatible with the requirements of conformance level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 (external site).

Based on current knowledge, there are no known barriers.

Assessment procedure

This statement is based on a self-assessment. Automated checks with axe-core and Playwright as well as manual checks were carried out.

Additionally, key usage scenarios were manually checked using keyboard operation, focus inspection and screen reader support.

Enforcement procedure

If you believe that you have been disadvantaged by insufficiently accessible design of this website and have not received a satisfactory response to your feedback from the contact point named above, you can submit a complaint to the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG).

The FFG accepts complaints electronically via the complaints office contact form (external site).

Complaints are examined to determine whether they relate to breaches of the requirements of the Web Accessibility Act, in particular shortcomings in compliance with accessibility requirements by the federal government or an entity attributable to it.

If the complaint is justified, the FFG issues recommendations for action to the federal government or the entities concerned and proposes measures to remedy the deficiencies identified.

What is tested automatically

The following checks run automatically with axe-core and Playwright every time this website is rebuilt — on every page in both languages. If one of them fails, nothing is published. These notes are a technical self-assessment and do not replace the binding part of this statement.

• Rule checking with axe-core against levels A and AA of WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2.
• The same check in the operated states: an active filter, the opened collapsible menu, the paused rotation in the page header, a visible map hint.
• Heading levels follow one another without skipping, and all content sits inside the landmarks (1.3.1, 2.4.1).
• Every page declares its language, and passages in another language are marked up (3.1.1, 3.1.2).
• Keyboard-only operation: skip link, collapsible menu with Escape and focus return, arrow keys in the list of focus areas, pins on the partner map.
• The focus indicator is visible and stands out from its background by at least 3:1 everywhere — measured on all pages at two screen widths (2.4.7, 1.4.11).
• Controls stand out from their background by at least 3:1, through their border or their fill (1.4.11).
• The hint on the partner map does not cover the focused pin (2.4.11).
• Targets are at least 24 pixels high (2.5.8).
• No horizontal scrolling at 320 pixels width or at 200% zoom (1.4.4, 1.4.10).
• Increased line, word and letter spacing does not cut off any text (1.4.12).
• The automatic rotation in the page header can be paused and follows the system setting for reduced motion (2.2.2).
• The presentation stays legible in the operating system’s contrast mode (forced colours), including the map and the focus-area labels (1.4.1, 1.4.11).
• Links are underlined rather than distinguished by colour alone; external links are announced as such and do not open a new window (1.4.1, 1.1.1).
• Without JavaScript, navigation, map, overviews and publication details remain usable; controls that would do nothing are not shown at all.
