FutureDEAL — Future of Digital Education and Learning — is a cooperative doctoral programme run by the University College of Teacher Education Styria and TU Graz: six dissertations on contemporary, competence-oriented computer science education and on digital literacy.

The programme closes a gap familiar to both sides: schools have ideas for teaching but rarely the capacity to implement them technically, while computer science produces tools that could improve teaching but rarely find their way into everyday school life. The computer science expertise therefore sits with TU Graz, while checking practical applicability and running trials in schools sits with the University College of Teacher Education Styria.

## The six dissertations

The topics range from artificial intelligence in the classroom and teachers’ AI competence, through adaptive learning environments using augmented reality and self-regulated learning with chatbots, to distance teaching, mobile learning and interactive video content in open online courses.

## Funding

FutureDEAL is one of the projects in the education ministry’s initiative „Bildungsinnovation braucht Bildungsforschung“ (education innovation needs education research), which builds up cooperative doctoral programmes run jointly by universities and university colleges of teacher education. The results are meant to arrive where the questions came from: in the classroom and in teacher education.
